Practicing fairness in our society, or in our world, is a never ending challenge. There are so many examples of unfairness in our world. But, change can happen 'one child at a time'. Being fair is like practicing your creativity skills. Some kids seem to naturally have the talent and ability without even learning it. But many need to learn what 'being fair' means to the people in our world. Again, you can be a great role model, and the reason your child is just naturally a fair human being. Charlie can help you showcase an example, to your preschooler, of someone being fair.
These books are a series of lessons for children ages 4-6 years old, on positive attitudes for life experiences and illustrated through the use of bugs, slugs,and other crawly things. They are taught by a wise old ant named Professor Crawly who uses all his crawly friends to teach his lessons.
This is a series of books too help kids accomplish three things:
1) Become less frightened of crawly things at an early age
2) Teach the benefits achieved in our environment by the crawly things on our planet
3) Teach them encouraging lessons and important principles about self-image and interaction with others

Professor Crawly Lesson 9 Charlie the Centipede’s Communal Cave is the ninth in a series of children’s books by Gary Chase. This is a book geared towards young children between the pre-school and early elementary years. It features a centipede named Charlie who lives in Centipedeville.
The citizens of Centipedeville have problems with shoe shortages. They are supposed to share the shoes they have, but one greedy centipede named Sleezy always takes more than his fair share. The story contrasts Charlie’s generous attitudes with Sleezy’s selfish ones and shows that Charlie’s way is the better way. Charlie the Centipede is a fun, positive protagonist and Centipedeville is a nice place to live despite their chronic shoe shortages because most of the citizens are kind and cooperative.
I give this book four out of four stars. The story was professionally edited. There are no errors in the text. The simple tale was told in a fun rhyming style. There was a strong contrast between the text and the background colors, making the text easy to read. The pictures are fun and colorful, and children are sure to enjoy them.
There was nothing that I disliked about this story. The author’s goals are twofold: to teach young children to not be afraid of insects and to impart positive lessons about being a helpful member of one’s community. The author succeeds in both goals.
I recommend this brief book for early readers who can enjoy having the story read to them and can also learn to read the words themselves. It is commendable to teach kids to respect insects and show that insects have a place in the world rather than simply being pests that must be killed immediately. This story can be used as a segue into further science lessons about the animal world as well as reinforcing the idea that cooperation and generosity are attitudes that benefit the entire community.
